Morningside After Dark

Neighborhood fave Morningside Aesthetic Club does not disappoint with an original song at a 2017 MAD performance. Other performers over the years have included author Lorna Landvik, poet Lester Batiste, singer-songwriter Dan Israel, reggae artist Ryan Liestman, singer Jillian Rae, author and civil rights attorney Rev. Dr. Nekima Levy-Pounds, ensemble group Heartfelt, actor Remy Auberjonois and a number of EMC members.

Cold temps can only mean one thing: Morningside After Dark!

The annual MAD Winter Storytelling and Live Music Series—created by EMC member Rebecca Sorensen, Laurie Lindeen and Jim Mahoney and co-hosted by Sorensen, Mahoney and musician Katy Vernon—features professional and amateur performers galore. Singer-songwriters and a capella groups, solo musicians and garage bands, authors and poets, actors and comedians, and many more perform three times each year in our cozy coffeehouse venue, a.k.a. EMC’s basement, featuring a stage and even a greenroom.

Roughly 150+ attendees pack the house each night for the entertainment, a pop-up shop or two, treats created by local confectioners and church-basement bakers, and coffee by Caribou. (A freewill offering is encouraged to help offset the church utility costs.)
